Nice to Meet You!

yep, that's me! Cute, right? i know.. total babe.

What you don't know is that after I finished my bowl of chicken noodle soup, I thrashed around the house for hours like a tornado because my stomach was in excruciating pain. I used to make my mother crouch in front of the toilet holding my hand, while I sat heaved over sobbing dramatically for hours. Sorry, mom, you're a saint.

This was a daily ritual for me. Cry for food. Cry uncontrollably after eating it.

Sounds fun, no? I was a real delight.

I grew up in an Italian family where I was taught that food is love; obsessing over it, making it, and sharing it exist at the very heart of my culture and relationships. But as a child and young adult, I lived with severe allergies, painful digestive disturbances, excess weight, overwhelming anxiety and chronic migraines. My stomach aches were so bad that I once overdosed on chewable grape Tylenol and threw up purple sludge all over the kitchen table. Yes, I TOLD YOU MY MOM IS A SAINT, DIDN'T I?!?

I used to get *so* anxious before social events that St. Mina would give me St. John's Wort to mildly tranquilize me. At 11, I had my first full-blown panic attack and woke up at the bottom of a flight of stairs in a pool of my favourite breakfast: Diet Coke. I was =always= on the latest diet, determined to shrink my naturally curvy frame to a more 'normal' size. When I turned 18, I realized I inherited some rad family traits: thick shiny hair, a sweet set of mammary glands, and - best of all - autoimmune diseases!!! That was the clincher; I finally got woke and started thinking about how my lifestyle was affecting my health. I refused to accept modern medicine's standard treatments ("here's a bunch of needles, drugs, and 'roids for life, because we can't cure you, babe"), which led me on a 10+ year mission to discover the secret to healing.

Along the way, I have questioned, researched, studied, cooked, detoxed + retoxed, sweat, juiced, purged, cried, laughed, meditated, and explosive diarrhea-ed my way through almost every health claim in existence. I've been lucky enough to learn from countless professionals: doctors, homeopaths, naturopaths, physical trainers, colon hydrotherapists, astrologers and energy healers, just to name a few.  This curiosity eventually took over my entire life. After earning an Honours Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto and working for various public relations, music and fashion companies, I traded it all in to attend the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. I graduated first in my class and became a registered holistic nutritionist (RHN) determined to help others in any way I can.

I want to share what I've learned, with the hope that together we can celebrate our collective wEiRdnEsS and discover a unique way to be healthy, modern girls.

Your diet doesn’t have to be forever limited to restrictive plans or boring, gross food. You can have your kale and Oreos, too. I believe nutrition is an extremely powerful tool – but it’s not a one-size-fits-all fix to every concern. A number on the scale will not determine your health, because we are what we eat, but also what we think, feel, say and do.  Taking real care of yourself is about more than just smart food choices + exercise: it's a mind, body, spirit three-way. It's about paying attention to what makes you feel good and alive. It's realizing you are always enough, no matter what you do.  It's prioritizing healthy habits and making choices you can be proud of, while treating yourself like precious cargo. It's stepping into your power and authenticity. True wellness is about finding balance and major joy,  ditching shame and fear, breaking up with judgment and comparison, learning to love who you are, and keeping it real, on the plate and in your every day life.  It's a process and it starts with you.

I'm on a mission to teach young women how to  take care of themselves, so they can take over the world . We are all more lost and confused than ever before.  No one taught us that we can heal ourselves. No one taught us how powerful we really are. That's why I'm here.

It all comes down to this: lack of self-love, poor self-care and debilitating self-doubt create illness and keep us living small.

This is a judgement-free zone, where I'll always share my truth with you + hope you'll feel at home sharing your real-real with me.  Let this be a space where we can evolve, question, celebrate, connect, and learn to love and care for our dynamic selves with open minds and open hearts.  I'm so happy you're here.

Lauren is a game changer. She completely altered the way I approach my health and taught me how to love myself in the process. She is smart, unconventional, free spirited and fun. Life wouldn't be the same without her.

What is Holistic Nutrition, Exactly?

Holistic Nutritionists are trained professionals that believe in a whole, individualized approach to healthcare; we care for the mind, body + spirit focusing on nutrition and lifestyle elements. Our programs are designed to guide clients back to a natural state of dynamic health. We focus on prevention and self-responsibility as fundamental keys to any successful wellness program. You have to want it and be willing to change (but it's fun and not scary, I promise).

I attended the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in Toronto, where I graduated first in my class. CSNN is a private institution that offers an intensive 1 year full-time or 2 year part-time program based on a university-level curriculum with locations all across Canada. Graduates are awarded a diploma that certifies them as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and gives them the designation of R.H.N, with full qualification to join the U.S National Association of Nutrition Professionals (NANP).

R.H.Ns follow a strict Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice. To learn more, visit CSNN.
